HOUSE 49
back to list

Located in a narrow alley, House 49 reimagines micro living for an elderly couple. This compact residence prioritizes both efficiency and a vibrant connection to nature. Clever spatial organization maximizes each square meter, fostering a sense of openness despite the limited footprint with a cost-effective price ($80,000). Elevated floors create a visual connection throughout the home, while strategically placed windows bathe the interior in a dynamic interplay of natural light, a key design element the project refers to as “playing light”.

House 49 champions functionality over ostentation. Every detail, from the elevated structure to the meticulously crafted built-ins, serves a purpose, contributing to the overall efficiency of the space. The design process itself becomes a unique collaboration, with on-site detailing allowing for adjustments based on the specificities of the alley and its surroundings. This approach ensures a harmonious integration with the existing urban fabric, creating a bespoke sanctuary tailored to the residents’ needs and the unique character of the site.
