NGHÉ ROCKING CHAIR
back to list

In Vietnamese, the word NGHÉ means young buffalo. Designed by a mother for her son, NGHÉ ROCKING CHAIR is formed in the shape of a joyful buffalo playing in a field of grass.

In Vietnam, the buffalo is a symbol of rice cultivation and farming culture. These two images combine to represent the future of the country’s youngest generation. A gentle and sturdy creature, the buffalo is a fitting symbol of a stoic move into the future; creating lasting change one blade of grass at a time.

Created using rattan, it combines techniques developed in the farm-lands in which the buffalo resides. The decision to use this sustainable material depicts a constant link between humanity and nature, as well as a desire to preserve the best bits of Vietnam’s traditional cultures, alongside the new.
